Surrey Hills Wood Fuel Group The Climate Friendly Co. led efforts to develop a partnership in the Surrey Hills area, to better utilise the huge potential wood fuel resource that exists there. In summer 2005, we were successful in obtaining funding from DEFRA under its Bio-energy Infrastructure Scheme to set up The Surrey Hills Wood Fuel Group. This is a 'producer group', sharing resources to enable the cost effective production of biomass fuel for delivery to local end-use heat and power projects. Initially, the group will produce wood chip but will later expand to include wood pellet production for use in domestic pellet stoves and boilers. The partnership includes energy charity ECSC, local authorities in the Surrey Hills AONB area, Surrey Wildlife Trust, local farmers and forestry contractors. The project has support from Surrey Hills AONB office, SEEDA and Guildford Environmental Forum. The project is now managed by Natural Discovery Ltd.
